Microsoft has announced that it will cut 650 jobs in its Xbox gaming division.
According to multiple media reports, this move comes as the US-based technology company aims to organize its business for "long-term success."
Microsoft said that departing employees will receive "exit packages" that include severance pay, extended health care and severance services.
Packages will vary outside the US based on location. Microsoft Gaming chief Phil Spencer said there will be some impact on other teams at the company as they "adapt to changing priorities and manage the lifecycle and performance of games."
The move marks the third time Microsoft has cut its gaming workforce since completing a $69 billion acquisition of video game company Activision Blizzard in October 2023.
In late January, the company said it would lay off 9 percent of its gaming department, a few months after the deal closed.
