Kosovo's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Glauk Konjfuca, said that the willingness of LDK leader Lumir Abdixhiku to meet with Albin Kurti gives hope that the president's issue can be resolved.
Konjufca stated to RTV 21 that the will shown by Abdixhiku is good news as it opens up prospects for the possibility of electing the president.
"As you have seen, another meeting between Prime Minister Kurti and the leader of the LDK, Lumir Abdixhiku, has taken place. Prime Minister Kurti has also sent a letter to the PDK. It will be further specified whether this meeting can happen or not. With Mr. Abdixhiku, as far as I saw, and his response was that he is willing for the meetings to continue. This is good news because it gives some perspective for the possibility of electing a president. We will always hope that we have the capacity and wisdom to avoid some elections that were held only four months ago. Four months ago, the people spoke. It is not that any great change has occurred that the people do not have the same opinion in the elections. The people change their opinion only when major transformations occur. ", stated Glauk Konjufca.
Konjufca has stated that without the opposition parties, a quorum of 80 votes cannot be created and has expressed optimism that something like this will happen.
"This was something that was not foreseen a few months ago because Kosovo has never failed to elect a president. It has always managed to elect a president. Since 2001-2002, we have never failed in this process. The first time was that we encountered greater complications and these are because the current positioning of political forces made it impossible to elect a president easily, because we could not come up with a name that the opposition parties could agree on. Without the opposition parties, the quorum form consisting of 80 people cannot be created. But we are always optimistic that this will happen," he said.
According to Konjufca, new elections may be avoidable, since even if they are held, the result will not change, since according to Konjufca, nothing negative has happened.
"These (elections) that were in December, we are still the same people we were, we are still the same figures, nothing negative has happened that made the people think something about governance that they didn't think about before. So the result would be roughly the same. Then why would these elections be necessary when they can be avoided. We will never give up on negotiations, on discussions with other political entities to really find a solution that would help our state," said Konjufca.
