Matthew G. Whitaker, Permanent Representative of the United States of America to NATO, visited Kosovo today, where he was received by Acting President Albulena Haxhiu.
His visit brings to mind the strong statements he made during the parliamentary elections of October 6, 2019, when he warned about the direction the country could take depending on the election result.
In a public statement at that time, in which he came out in support of PDK and Kadri Veseli, Whitaker emphasized that Kosovo was facing a major strategic crossroads.
"On October 6, Kosovo is at a major crossroads. The choice is between a government led by Kadri Veseli that will strengthen the partnership with the US and fight corruption. Or between a government that would bring international isolation to Kosovo and would not be able to fight corruption," he declared.
He had gone even further, emphasizing that Kadri Veseli and the Democratic Party of Kosovo represented the right alternative for the country, as a force that guarantees a sustainable partnership with the US and real commitment to the fight against corruption.
These positions, of an official who today holds one of the highest positions in NATO structures, are considered a clear message about the importance of Kosovo's Euro-Atlantic orientation and the preservation of its strategic alliances.
