The Skoda Superb has set an incredible record for diesel engine efficiency, covering 2,831 kilometers (1,759 miles) without stopping for fuel, TV21 reports.

Miko Marczyk, winner of the 2025 European Rally Championship, drove the standard Skoda model, with some minor modifications for aerodynamics and low-rolling resistance tires, achieving an average consumption of just 2.61 liters per 100 km (90.1 mpg).

The journey involved a route from Łódź in Poland, through Germany and Paris, and back through the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, maintaining an average speed of 80 km/h (50 mph). During a 200 km segment in France, the car consumed just 2.2 liters per 100 km (106.9 mpg).

However, Marczyk isn't stopping there – he aims to reach 3,000 km (1,864 miles) on a single tank, believing that using premium fuel could help him achieve this record.

The Superb was front-wheel drive and had a seven-speed automatic transmission.

The 2.0 TDI engine with 148 horsepower and 360 Nm of torque was not fully utilized. A service car traveled ahead to provide traffic information and assist with smooth braking and acceleration.

However, diesel is losing ground in Europe. Diesel car sales have fallen to just 8.3% of the new car market, while Volkswagen, Skoda's parent company, is gradually removing diesel engines from smaller models, leaving them only in the Golf, Octavia and larger models.

If the European Union implements the ban planned for 2035, internal combustion engines could disappear from the new car market on the continent. /GazetaExpress/
