From the United States of America, the Speaker of the Albanian Parliament, Niko Peleshi, raised concerns about security in the Western Balkans.
During his speech at the Security Forum in the US Congress, Peleshi described the region as a geopolitical space vulnerable to hybrid threats and foreign interference.
"The Western Balkans remain geopolitically sensitive, exposed to foreign efforts to undermine stability, weaken democratic institutions and destroy trust in the Euro-Atlantic path. This reality requires vigilance, stability and strategic clarity. Euro-Atlantic integration and Kosovo's NATO membership are essential for security and stability in the region," he said.
"Security has a cost and responsibility must be shared"! With this message, Speaker Peleshi recalled the decision of the NATO Summit in The Hague to increase defense investments, emphasizing that Albania is also taking such a step.
"This year we are investing 2.12% of Gross Domestic Product in defense, with a steady upward trajectory in the coming years, to meet the agreed guidelines," he further says.
At the Forum, attended by senators and congressmen, senior security representatives and senior American military figures, Peleshi underlined that the Albania-US partnership is strategic, long-term and based on shared democratic values, the rule of law and respect for human rights.
