The Ministry of Interior does not have an active system for punishing all those who use cars with foreign license plates in the country. Despite the entry into force of the Safe City system on February 1, there is no data yet on how many people have been stopped or punished by this category of citizens, who mainly use license plates from foreign countries, Bulgarian, Serbian, Albanian, Kosovar, etc.
ALSAT requested clarification on this issue from Deputy Minister of Interior Astrit Iseni, who emphasized to us that: "Within the framework of the implementation of the "Safe City" project, violations committed by vehicles with foreign license plates, recorded through the automatic video surveillance system and detection of traffic violations, will be processed at border points. At each entry or exit of the vehicle from the country, the person will be notified of the violation committed and will be obliged to pay the fine imposed in accordance with the law", Astrit Iseni, Deputy Minister of Interior.
*Violations with recorded foreign license plates will be processed at border crossings
*At every entry and exit, the person is notified of the violation and is required to pay the fine.
But, what the minister says is only the spirit of the law, while in reality, no measures have been implemented against cars with foreign license plates.
Alsat again sent additional and more precise questions, but this time the deputy minister delegated us to the public relations sector.
– Is the system currently functional for cars with foreign license plates?
-How many cars with foreign license plates have been stopped at the border?
-How many of them have been convicted through the same "Safe City" system?
For days now, Deputy Minister Iseni has been avoiding responding to messages about traffic violations, which continue to be only in Macedonian. In his response, he only refers to the language of the minutes, not the text messages./Alsat.mk
