Portugal coach Roberto Martinez was seen outside the church where tributes were being held for Diogo Jota.
Martinez had coached Jota since taking charge of the national team in 2023. In their last match together, they won the UEFA Nations League.
"We are all affected by this tragedy. We are devastated," Martinez said in a video released by the Portuguese Football Federation.
Jota and his brother died in a car accident near the Spanish province of Zamora in the early hours of Thursday.
The incident occurred at around 00:30 local time, according to a statement from Spain's Guardia Civil.
Jota had been advised not to travel by plane after a minor surgical procedure, so he was travelling by car to catch the ferry that would take him back to England, where he was expected to begin preparations for the new season on Monday./Express newspaper/
