The Democratic Party of Kosovo held a meeting of its Steering Council today, where they discussed current political developments in the country, the difficult economic situation facing citizens, the trial in The Hague against former KLA leaders, as well as other important issues, the announcement states.

Although, Prime Minister Albin Kurti, after exhausting all possibilities with Abdixhiku's party on the issue of the president, declared that he had sent a message to the leader of the PDK, Bedri Hamza. PDK has decided that its contribution to this process has ended, because "the current government is once again preventing the election of a new President," PDK assesses.

Regarding the issue of the President, "The Steering Council assesses that PDK has demonstrated full willingness to contribute to the election of the new President and to unblocking the situation, by supporting the possibility of a consensual candidate, without any conditions or requirements for inclusion in co-government. However, despite this constructive approach, the lack of political will and institutional seriousness on the part of the current government is once again making the election of the new President impossible. Consequently, PDK considers its contribution to this process concluded," the PDK statement states.

The PDK Steering Council has also expressed concern "about the worsening economic situation and the increasing cost of living, which is burdening citizens, demanding urgent and concrete measures for economic support."

Also, through this statement, PDK demands a final, fair and impartial decision for the KLA leaders, who are being tried in The Hague, the PDK press release continues.

The Political Declaration of the PDK Steering Council reiterates that internal party elections should be held in 2026, "with the aim of strengthening internal democracy and creating a new governing alternative."
