Rafa Mir, who is currently on loan at Elche CF from Sevilla FC, is under investigation following an accusation of sexual assault made against him in September 2024. The footballer was arrested by police at the time and, although he was released on bail, the case continues to be investigated by the Public Prosecutor's Office.

Mir was on loan at Valencia CF when the allegations were made, and after the scandal broke he was banned from the first team for three months. During that season he played 22 games for Valencia, while this season he has scored seven goals in 23 appearances for Elche.

The case has been handled quietly for a while, but new developments have recently emerged. According to reports from Las Provincias (via Cadena SER), the Prosecutor's Office has requested that Mir be sentenced to a total of 10.5 years in prison. Of these, nine years are requested for the alleged act of aggravated sexual assault, while 18 months for the injuries allegedly suffered by the alleged victim.

The Prosecution has also proposed that Mir not approach the alleged victim within 500 meters for a period of 13 years. After that, he will have seven years of supervision and eight years of special prohibition on engaging in any activity related to minors.

Mir has denied the allegations since his arrest in 2024 and continues to insist that the relationship between him and the person in question was consensual.

Meanwhile, he has been embroiled in another controversy over the past seven days. Omar El Hilali has accused him of making racist comments during Sunday's match between Elche CF and RCD Espanyol. The matter has now been referred to La Liga, which is expected to investigate the case in the coming weeks before deciding whether to take action against the striker.
