The Social Democratic League (SDSM) today filed a criminal complaint against Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, accusing him of several criminal offenses related to, as stated by the party, the violation of the constitutional order and laws. The reason for filing the charges, according to the SDSM, are the public statements of the Prime Minister, which, as stated in the party statement, can be interpreted as a notification of political pressure and possible procedures against former officials and members of the opposition, reports Portalb.mk.

At a press conference in front of the Skopje Prosecutor's Office building, party secretary general Aleksandar Sasha Dimitrijevic announced that the criminal charges filed against the prime minister relate to criminal offenses. – abuse of official position and authority, violation of the equality of citizens, endangerment of security, in accordance with the provisions of the Criminal Code.

“Hristijan Mickoski is no longer hiding; he is a prosecutor, a judge, who orders trials against the opposition and dissidents in advance. From the position of Prime Minister, Mickoski publicly announces criminal prosecutions, targets specific people from the opposition and their families with charges written in advance. His expression “I have a feeling” is dictated by fear because he knows that he will have to face responsibility. But this is a scandal of unprecedented proportions and represents a complete collapse of the legal and constitutional order, and he must bear responsibility for this. Mickoski’s statement is a signal that the judiciary and the prosecution have been transformed into a tool for political revenge and persecution of dissidents. Natural methods of authoritarian regimes that the democratic system does not recognize”, said Dimitrijevic.

SDSM filed criminal charges for the following criminal offenses:

  • Abuse of official position and authority (Article 353, paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code)
  • Violation of the equality of citizens (Article 137, paragraphs 1 and 2 of the Criminal Code)
  • Endangering security (Article 143, paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code)”

From there, they demand that the Public Prosecution immediately act on the criminal report., to summon Mickoski for questioning and prevent further endangerment of the legal order
