DAZN's refereeing expert, Luca Marelli, has given his assessment of the controversial decisions that angered Inter in their 1-1 draw with Atalanta. According to him, these are "subjective situations."

Two important episodes occurred in the final minutes of this Serie A match at San Siro, after Francesco Pio Esposito had put Inter ahead.

Atalanta equalized with a goal from Nikola Krstovic, after Kamaldeen Sulemana had previously taken the ball from Denzel Dumfries near the area, causing the Dutch player to trip and fall.

Referee Gianluca Manganiello seemed to hesitate for a moment, but ultimately decided not to intervene and allow the goal.

After a lengthy VAR review, the initial decision was upheld, angering Inter coach Cristian Chivu, who was sent off.

"There is no contact from below between the legs. The only contact is a hand on the back, but it doesn't feel like a push," Marelli explained.

"In my opinion, Manganiello did well to let the game continue, because any contact is minimal," he added.

Another controversial moment occurred a little later, when Davide Frattesi got first to a rebound and was hit in the boot by Giorgio Scalvini.

Even in this case, the referee allowed the game to continue and the VAR did not see it necessary to recommend an On-Field Review.

"It's a subjective situation; penalties are serious matters and shouldn't be given for every contact," Marelli added.

"I see contact between Scalvini and Frattesi that can be assessed, but there is no clear hit from the Atalanta defender. I do not believe that Manganiello saw the episode, but I also think that VAR did well not to intervene, because it was not a clear and obvious error. It is a situation that can be interpreted and of course any opinion is legitimate," he concluded./Express newspaper/
