The Italian Super Cup will not be held in Saudi Arabia for the 2026-27 edition, Lega Serie A president Luigi De Siervo has confirmed.
The last edition of the Super Cup was played in Saudi Arabia and the organizers had a contractual option to host it next season, but it seems they have decided not to activate that clause.
"It's a complicated issue, we have several contracts and we can say that it will not be played in Saudi Arabia," De Siervo told RAI Radio Parlamento.
"Currently there is the idea of playing in the US, another international option, but also the possibility of playing in Italy for a year," he added.
The Italian Super Cup is expected to continue with the "Final Four" format, which includes a semi-final between the Serie A winner and the losing finalist of the Italian Cup, as well as the other clash between the Cup winner and the league runner-up.
The winners of the two semi-finals then face off in the final for the trophy.
The December 2025 edition was won by Napoli, who defeated Bologna in the final.
The Super Cup is usually played in neutral stadiums, so organizers will need to find suitable facilities for the new format.
There is another problem with this format, as Inter won the championship title and are also finalists in the Coppa Italia, which means that an additional team must be included to complete the tournament's top four./Express newspaper/
