A ship belonging to the French shipping company CMA CGM has received warning shots in the Strait of Hormuz, in an incident that significantly increases tensions in one of the most important corridors of global trade.
The news was confirmed by the Marseille-based company itself, which stressed that "the crew is safe," while the event occurred on Saturday.
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) also confirmed the incident, stating that the ship, a shipping container, suffered damage, without providing further details.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump accused Iran of violating the ceasefire agreement, stating that Iranian forces have fired on commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz, including French and British vessels.
According to reports, commercial ships have faced threats and fire from Iranian forces as they tried to pass through this key route, after Iran had re-imposed restrictions on traffic after a brief period of opening.
British maritime safety authorities also reported several other incidents: an oil tanker was fired upon by Iranian Revolutionary Guard patrol boats, while another ship reported shell explosions near it in waters off Oman. In a third case, a container ship was hit by an unknown object, causing damage to several containers.
