Tehran said on Sunday that "no one expected" the US and Iran to reach a deal in the first round of negotiations.
"From the beginning it was clear that we should not expect to reach an agreement in a single session.
"Nobody expected this," Esmaeil Baqaei, an Iranian diplomatic spokesman, told Iranian state television after the announcement of the failure of talks in Islamabad to end the war in the Middle East. The Foreign Ministry spokesman said he was "sure that our contacts with Pakistan, as well as with our other friends in the region, will continue," ANSA reported.
According to reports, the Tehran delegation sent to Islamabad has already left Pakistan.
Meanwhile, US Vice President JD Vance says the US and Iran have not reached an agreement after high-stakes peace talks in Islamabad, Pakistan, writes the BBC, KosovaPress reports.
Vance says Iran chose "not to accept our terms," adding that the US needs to see a "fundamental commitment" from Tehran not to develop nuclear weapons.
