The VLEN coalition has reacted by publishing a document dated August 27, 2019, signed by Talat Xhaferi, which it describes as evidence of "negligence and political betrayal" regarding the issue of the jurisprudence exam and the use of the Albanian language.
According to VLEN, when the Law on the Use of Languages was already in force, then Speaker Talat Xhaferi did not request the harmonization of the law on the jurisprudence exam with the provisions on the Albanian language. The statement states that the law was declared acceptable without guaranteeing the use of the Albanian language in this exam.
The coalition also criticizes the fact that the law was approved through the Badenter mechanism, with the support of Albanian MPs at the time, who according to them did not insist that the exam be held in Albanian. VALEN estimates that this has had consequences for Albanian students.
The reaction also mentions the Democratic Union for Integration (DUI), accusing it of not resolving this issue during more than 20 years of government with ministers of justice from its ranks. VALEN calls the current reactions of the DUI as "belated" and "hypocritical".
At the end of the statement, VLEN emphasizes that it is committed to ensuring that the bar exam is also held in the Albanian language, considering the language as a matter of dignity and justice. "The DUI, which for more than 20 years has had five ministers of justice from its ranks, never solved this problem. Today, they shed crocodile tears and come out in defense, but the documents speak clearly: this problem bears the stamp of Talat Xhaferi and their politics. VLEN will be the force for this exam to be held in the Albanian language. Because our language is not a language of the margins, but a language of dignity and justice," say, among other things, the VLEN coalition.
