The Head of the Parliamentary Group of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, Besnik Tahiri, called for the Kosovo Assembly to establish a memorial for American Congressman Eliot Engel on its premises, so that his contribution is remembered forever.
He said that holding the memorial session for Engel constitutes an important state and historical act, as an expression of gratitude for the support for Kosovo in the most difficult periods.
"The Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo is performing an important state and historical act by holding this special commemorative session in honor and respect of American Congressman Eliot Engel. This is more than a moment of remembrance. It is a clear expression of our gratitude as a state, as an assembly for a man who stood with the people of Kosovo in our most difficult times and in the most decisive times of our history. Our right path to freedom and independence is known to have been built with many sacrifices, on the sacrifice of our people, but also on the strong support of our friends in the free world, led by the United States of America," he said.
"In this history, Congressman Engel occupies a special place. Since the years of repression, he was among the most powerful voices in the United States Congress, constantly raising the issue of Albanian rights. He strongly supported freedom, he strongly supported NATO's intervention, contributing to stopping the tragedy and opening our country's path to freedom. After the war, he continued to be a steadfast supporter of Kosovo in the process of independence and state-building," he said. /EO/
