Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has apologised to fans after a tense clash that took place following the Reds' 4-0 defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup.
The Hungarian midfielder explained his actions and attempted to calm the situation, while at the same time expressing confidence in a historic comeback against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
The incident occurred at the Etihad on April 4, when after the heavy defeat, Szoboszlai was seen shrugging and gesturing towards away fans who were expressing their displeasure.
The footage went viral and many fans described his behavior as arrogant, before Federico Chiesa intervened to calm the situation.
Speaking ahead of the return leg against PSG, Szoboszlai said: "Maybe it was a misunderstanding between me and the fans. I didn't mean it badly and I know what the club means to the fans and what the fans mean to the club."
"We do everything for the fans and if it was a misunderstanding, I apologize. They need to understand that I feel the same way as they do. We are with them and I hope they are with us," he added.
After being eliminated from the FA Cup, Liverpool are now forced to focus fully on the big challenge in the Champions League, where they must overturn a two-goal deficit against Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield.
