The Swiss government plans to tighten rules on the purchase of real estate by foreign nationals. According to an announcement made on Wednesday, foreigners will have to obtain a special permit before buying a house in Switzerland, reports albinfo.ch.
This measure aims to help address the housing shortage in the country. In this context, the authorities plan to make access to the purchase of primary housing for citizens of countries outside the European Union and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) – which includes Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein – possible only with special authorization.
The Federal Council also plans to tighten the rules for purchasing holiday homes. The annual quotas granted to cantons for the purchase of these properties by third-country nationals will be reduced.
Furthermore, real estate sales between foreign nationals will also be subject to an authorization procedure. These measures aim to limit pressure on the housing market and improve access to property for local residents. /Albinfo.ch/
