The Swiss Bishops' Conference (CES) has decided to continue carrying out psychological assessments for pastoral candidates and to ensure their long-term funding. This process, introduced in the spring of 2025, aims to prevent sexual abuse.
The tests include four phases: psychological assessment, competency interview, clinical-forensic interview and diocesan interview. During the pilot phase, 72 tests were conducted, identifying several unsuitable profiles and terminating cooperation with the relevant candidates.
The CES General Secretariat maintains a national register of all tested individuals, which serves bishops when candidates apply from dioceses or other religious communities.
