The Ministry of Internal Affairs today organized a meeting with Non-Governmental Organizations in North Mitrovica, to discuss the Law on Vehicles and the Law on Foreigners.

At this meeting, the Chief of Cabinet of Minister Xhelal Sveçla, Jeta Tela, said that the purpose of this meeting is to directly inform NGOs, including those representing the non-majority community.

Tela said at this meeting that these are not new laws, as the Law on Foreigners has been in force since 2013, while the Law on Vehicles since 2017.

"However, institutions are conducting this campaign with the aim of ensuring that citizens, foreign visitors and foreigners entering Kosovo have the necessary information about their legal rights and obligations," she said.

"In the course of improving services and providing them as close as possible to citizens, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has also worked on decentralizing services. So, now, in addition to Pristina, the opportunity to apply for a residence permit will be offered in three other regions: North Mitrovica, Gjilan and Prizren, so that all those affected by the Law on Foreigners, including the municipalities of the northern part, have easier and faster access to these services," added Tela.

In a statement, the Ministry of Internal Affairs expressed its disappointment after several civil society organizations from the Serbian community chose to boycott this meeting "by not taking advantage of the opportunity they had to contribute to informing the communities they represent or foreigners residing in their municipalities, as well as to participate in discussions about these laws."

The Ministry of Interior finally called on citizens not to fall prey to misinformation and to follow the official channels of the Ministry of Interior and the Kosovo Police for any accurate information.
