Stray dogs in the center of Kumanovo, on the sidewalks, stray dogs even in the yard of the General Hospital in Kumanovo. And after the citizens of Kumanovo are attacked, these scenes await them in the yard of the Emergency Room at the hospital, reports Gazeta Express from Alsat.
Citizens are seeking solutions to the horror they are experiencing everywhere in Kumanovo.
"They attack every day, in Lojan alone there are over 30 dogs." "The municipality should round them up, like in Lipkovo and here, there are many dogs, everywhere." "I have a vineyard near the border and they attack us there." They release them from Serbia, bring them to the border in trucks and release them here, this is very harmful," said a citizen.
"The situation with dogs in Kumanovo is serious, there's one here, there's others over there, all at the hospital. Do you know anyone who was attacked? Five days ago they attacked my daughter down there," said another citizen.
"The municipality or the state is to blame, if you beat the dog then the person who beats the dog is to blame, but the state is responsible for these things," the citizen said.
According to the hospital director, Sasho Stojcevski, in three and a half months, 37 patients have sought medical help due to bites from stray dogs. In addition to patients, stray dogs have also attacked the staff of the general hospital in Kumanovo. says Blend Aliu, Head of the emergency department.
"We have serious concerns about stray dogs that roam around the hospital yard and the emergency department, because they attack citizens and the most recent case was a few minutes ago when one of the staff was attacked, so we have a big problem with stray dogs," stated Blend Aliu - Head of the emergency department.
The Municipality of Kumanovo does not have any concrete plan for this phenomenon, and they even say that after the dogs are caught and sterilized, they are released back onto the streets after three weeks.
"The problem with stray dogs cannot be solved at the municipal level and the state must find a more serious way to deal with this problem. In cooperation with the veterinary station, they provide suggestions, but if it is approached seriously, it can be solved within three or four years. It should be known that after the dogs are caught, they are kept for 30 days with a chip and sterilized and released back to the place where they were taken," said Boban Bojkovski - Environmental Inspector in the Kumanovo Municipality.
The Municipality of Kumanovo, for 2025, has paid around 65 thousand euros in compensation to citizens bitten by stray dogs, which shows that this phenomenon has significantly damaged the municipal budget./Alsat.mk.
