The Speaker of the Parliament of North Macedonia, Afrim Gashi, has stated that the country remains strongly committed to the European Union (EU) membership process, describing it as the main driver of reforms, the rule of law and the strengthening of institutions, Anadolu reports.

The delegation of the Parliament of North Macedonia is participating in the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which is being held from 15 to 19 April 2026 in Istanbul.

The delegation is led by the Speaker of the Assembly and Head of the Delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Afrim Gashi, and includes MPs Nikola Micevski, Oliver Spasovski, Bekim Qoku, Boban Karapejovski, Arbana Pasholli and Jovana Mojsoska, as well as the Secretary General of the Assembly, Marina Dimovska.

The main topic for discussion at the Assembly is "Cultivating hope, consolidating peace and ensuring justice for future generations."

Gashi participated in the general debate of the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, where he emphasized that the world is facing serious challenges, including pressures on democracy, a large number of conflicts, and deepening socio-economic inequalities.

He also referred to the Prespa Agreement, calling it an example of the successful resolution of long-standing disputes through dialogue, political courage and mutual respect.

In his speech, the Speaker emphasized that the Assembly is actively working to improve the legislative process, through the introduction of impact assessments and comprehensive consultations with all stakeholders.

He added that special emphasis is being placed on digital transformation and the responsible use of artificial intelligence, in line with European and international standards, as well as sustainable development through measures to reduce poverty, strengthen the energy transition, and address ecological challenges.

Referring to the role of young people, Gashi emphasized that their greater participation in political processes is necessary to ensure fair and adequate representation of future generations.

It is expected that, after the conclusion of the general debate, the 152nd Assembly will adopt the final document on this topic.
