Spain's Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, announced a new tool for censoring social media.
Sánchez presented HODIO (Huella del Odio y la Polarización, or Traces of Hate and Polarization).
According to him, this is a new tool for monitoring the spread, evolution and impact of "hate speech and polarizing content" on digital platforms.
The left-wing prime minister promised to hold social media companies accountable for handling harmful content.
For now, the Spanish government has only announced its intention to pass the law, but the phases and dates for its implementation are still unknown.
First, it must be presented to the Council of Ministers. Then it must be processed and approved by Parliament, before being published in the Official State Gazette (BOE). Only then will it become law.
