Italian police, in cooperation with authorities in Spain, have arrested in Barcelona the son of the 54-year-old Ukrainian former banker, who was found dead after falling from a building in Milan on January 23.

Italian media reports that 34-year-old Igor Adarich is suspected of kidnapping his father, Alexandru Adarici.

Investigators suspect that the son convinced his father to travel to Milan under the pretext of a business meeting at a facility in the Via Nerino area, where the kidnapping is then allegedly organized. Investigators allege that he helped kidnap his father in order to force him to transfer 250,000 euros in cryptocurrency.

According to the investigative file, the 34-year-old is also accused of causing his father to fall from the apartment window, as he was the only person in the room at the time.

Italian authorities have rejected the version previously given by the suspect to Barcelona police, according to which they were attacked by a group of armed men.

According to the suspect's statements, he and his father had traveled to Italy for a meeting with a person named "Kirill", but investigators have found no evidence of the existence of such a meeting, writes A2CNN.

Investigations are continuing to fully elucidate the circumstances of the incident.
