A Premier League legend has revealed exactly what happens when former US President Donald Trump plays golf.
One of English football's biggest figures has revealed that Trump had snipers hidden in the bushes, who watched the field while he and the president played a round of golf together - an experience he described as "crazy".
Despite the great responsibilities he had as President of the United States, Trump always found time to play a round of golf at one of the many courses he owns in America.
During his golf career, the 78-year-old has played with some of the world's best athletes, including Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.
But a Premier League legend has revealed that while playing golf with Trump, he noticed that his security had positioned snipers all over the course.
Rooney and the crazy round with Trump
During his time at DC United in Major League Soccer, Wayne Rooney, the former Manchester United star, met Trump for a round of golf at Trump National Golf Club in 2019.
The two chatted about a variety of topics during the game, including Rooney's career and the possibility of Trump's son, Barron, taking football lessons from the former England captain.
But while speaking to Gary Neville on The Overlap, Rooney admitted that what surprised him most was the extreme level of security during the meeting.
“The craziest thing was we had [former New York Mayor Rudy] Giuliani in the carriage behind us,” Rooney said.
“Then there were about 50-100 golf carts full of security agents. There was a boat on the lake with snipers and other snipers hiding in the bushes. And I was thinking, 'What's going on here?!'”
Drunk in front of the President
Former Manchester United masseur and Rooney's close friend, Rod Thornley, gave more details about the round of golf, claiming that Rooney and he had been drunk when they met the former US president.
Speaking on the Under the Cosh podcast, Thornley said Trump got Rooney's goal tally at DC United wrong, but the Englishman did not correct him.
“Trump told us: 'This guy, this guy, scored five goals for DC United,'” Thornley recalled.
“I look at Rooney and say, 'Come on, improve him!'”
Trump then asked Rooney directly: "Or not, Wayne? Five goals, right, Wayne?" - and according to Thornley, Rooney simply replied: "Yes, yes, I scored them."
Thornley laughed, saying: “I thought, 'You're a big liar, tell him the truth!'” /GazetaExpress/
