A shocking event has occurred in Ecuador, where referee Javier Ortega (48 years old) was shot dead during an amateur match in Pasaje, in the El Oro province.
According to witnesses, several armed men approached during the game and opened fire in front of dozens of spectators, before leaving the scene.
Ortega was pronounced dead at the scene, and the match was immediately stopped.
Police have launched investigations and consider the case a deliberate murder, while footage and evidence are being analyzed to identify the perpetrators.
