"When we started, the concept was to bring back these beautiful songs that are not very well known outside of Albania"
Invited to “Live From Tirana” with Edea Demaliaj were the group Shkodra Elektonike, Beatriçe Gjergji and Kolë Laca. With their song “Zjerm”, they worthily represented Albania at Eurovision 2025 and won the hearts of the entire audience. Shkodra Elektonike came with a sincere confession about their feelings, emotions, but also many other untold details…
How did you meet and get together?
Beatrice: We met online, Kola had a band and I found some of his videos on YouTube. I sent him a message saying 'thank you for what you're doing'. It was a big surprise to discover an alternative artist from Shkodër. It was 2014-2015, I was young, I didn't think Kola would be interested in being in a band.
Kola: It took time to think about the project. I had been experimenting for some time, until Beatrice wrote to me. I liked how she sang, her attitude on stage. But at that time I didn't have anything concrete. After I finished touring with other bands, then I dedicated myself to this project. We did two days of rehearsals together and then we started doing concerts.
How important is it for you to be authentic?
Kola: It doesn't matter to us. We do things the way we think they're beautiful, the way we like them. If people think it's authentic, we're really happy. We stick to this authenticity, we don't know how to do it any other way. Maybe we can try (laughs).
Was it your goal to bring Albanian folklore back to the younger generations with your music?
Beatriçe: That is the concept of Shkodra Elektronik. We were both connected by a song, the love we have for Shkodra songs and then we discovered other Albanian songs. When we started, the concept was to bring back these beautiful songs that are not very well known outside of Albania. Few people know Shkodra songs. Then the combination with electronic music attracts young people. The listeners are even younger than us (laughs).
Kola: This is Shkodra Elektronike. /TAR/
