Journalist Blerim Shala has stated that former European diplomacy chief Javier Solana played a decisive role in stopping the option of partitioning Kosovo after the developments of the 2004 unrest.

In a conversation at podcast Speaking to publicist Veton Surroi, Shala said that Solana had urgently come to Pristina to meet with the Kosovo leadership, at a time when the idea of dividing Kosovo had begun to gain momentum in Serbia.

According to him, this idea was previously promoted by former Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic, who in 2002-2003 had sent letters to international leaders such as George W. Bush and Tony Blair, arguing that the partition of Kosovo was the only solution.

However, Shala emphasized that this option did not have international support at the time, but after the developments of March 2004 it began to be mentioned more seriously in Belgrade.

According to him, the Serbian Parliament had even adopted a political declaration that envisaged alternatives such as a bicameral assembly model for Kosovo or its partition.
