A culture of “easy” services has led many of us to spend our days mostly sitting down – ordering food, holding online work meetings, and communicating with friends from the couch.
Experts warn of an "epidemic of inactivity" as people become less and less physically active.
To show the consequences of inactivity, walking app company WeWard created a grotesque model, named Sam, to illustrate what the average sedentary person might look like in 2050.

With deep-set eyes, pale skin, swollen legs, and a neck bent forward from screens ("tech neck"), the model aims to raise awareness and inspire more frequent movement.
“If you’re looking for something scary this Halloween, look at what our future could look like if we continue to prioritize convenience over everyday activity,” WeWard said in a blog post.
The company used AI technology to create this projection, applying it to famous figures such as Brad Pitt, Oprah Winfrey and Meryl Streep, and offered guidance for users to create their own future version.

The main consequences of a sedentary lifestyle
Weight gain and body fat: Low activity slows metabolism and unconsumed energy is converted into fat, especially in the abdominal area, increasing the risk of obesity, diabetes and heart disease.
Poor body posture: Long hours sitting in front of a screen causes neck and upper back flexion (tech neck), chronic pain, and difficulty maintaining an upright posture.
Joint stiffness and arthritis: Insufficient movement affects joint health, causing pain, stiffness, and a possible increase in degenerative arthritis.
Swollen feet and ankles, varicose veins: Prolonged standing reduces blood flow, causing fluid retention and increasing the risk of blood clots.
Premature aging: Exposure to blue light and focusing on screens causes wrinkles, skin pigmentation, and signs of early aging.
Hair loss and thinning: Chronic stress, poor circulation, and poor diet affect hair follicles and promote hair loss.

Eye strain and blurred vision: Staring at a constant distance for long periods of time leads to dry eyes, redness, headaches, and difficulty focusing.
Skin problems: Reduced circulation can cause eczema, pale skin, and dark circles around the eyes.
Other consequences include increased stress, anxiety and depression, higher risk of certain types of cancer and chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and heart disease.
This pattern is a clear warning: regular physical activity and avoiding inactivity are key to long-term health. /GazetaExpress/
