Mohamed Salah has made an emotional appeal to Liverpool fans to give Jordan Henderson "the farewell he deserves" when the former captain returns to Anfield.
The Egyptian striker believes Henderson's sudden departure in 2023 deprived the club legend of a proper farewell after more than a decade of trophy-laden service on Merseyside.
Henderson is expected to play for the first time at Anfield since his abrupt departure in the summer of 2023, when he moved to Saudi Arabia, and now returns to the Premier League with Brentford.
Speaking to TNT Sports, Salah highlighted the importance of Henderson's contribution to the club's modern success.
"He didn't get the farewell he deserved because he left straight away. People in the city know how much it has cost Hendo to be captain for 12 years, more than me, more than Virg, more than anyone else. I don't know how the club or the fans will manage it, but I hope they do something special for him. He has been one of the best players at this club and without him in the dressing room we wouldn't have achieved what we have achieved. I hope the fans give him a good send-off. Because this is Liverpool and that's how we do things," he said.
Henderson himself has previously admitted that leaving Liverpool was emotionally very difficult, describing it as a painful "separation" from the club where he spent most of his career.
He said he found it difficult to even watch his former team's matches for a period after leaving, emphasizing his strong emotional connection to the club and the city.
This return to Anfield is expected to be a particularly emotional moment, with fans expected to show respect for one of the most important figures of Liverpool's recent era./Express newspaper/
