Albania's Ambassador to Kiev, Ernal Filo, spoke to News24 regarding the massive Russian missile and drone attack on Ukraine, which also hit the residence complex where he lives.
According to the Albanian diplomat, last night's attack was among the most severe since the start of the war in 2022. The ambassador indicated that in the early hours of the morning one of the missiles hit the complex where his residence is located. He added that emergency services intervened immediately to extinguish the flames in the affected premises, while after the end of the attack he managed to verify the damage to the building.
In his response, Filo condemned the attacks on civilians and called for a halt to the war.
“Since the first opening of the Embassy in Ukraine last year, last night’s attack, which began at around 22:00 PM and ended at 6:30 AM, was the longest, largest in terms of the amount of drones and missiles used, from Iskander to Oreshnik, and the most destructive since the beginning of the conflict in 2022. In the early hours of the morning, one of the missiles used also hit the residence complex where I live. The impact was so strong that the explosives penetrated the shelter of the building, in addition to damaging the facade. It was not an easy experience for me as the only diplomat in the building, but also for the residents of the surrounding area. Emergency services arrived immediately and extinguished the flames in the shelter premises and in the area where the strike occurred. With the end of the attack at around 6:30 AM, I was able to "I went up and saw the damage. The building was hit on the exterior facade, but it is still habitable. The Ukrainian authorities have contacted me and offered assistance, if necessary, as well as full solidarity. These attacks, which are terrorizing innocent people in flagrant violation of International Law, must stop and a just and lasting peace must be achieved," the ambassador said.
