Cristian Romero is facing a very serious injury that could rule him out of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The Argentine defender was injured during the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Sunderland, a duel that was accompanied by a serious incident in the first half.

Tottenham were trailing 1-0 after a goal by Nordi Mukiele when a violent clash broke out between goalkeeper Antonín Kinský and Romero, following a challenge from Bryan Robey. The Argentine defender was left lying on the pitch and required extensive medical treatment.

After a few minutes, he was forced to leave the field in tears, a sight that raised great concerns among both the team and the fans.

According to initial reports, a serious knee injury is suspected and his participation in the World Cup remains in doubt, pending medical tests that will determine the extent of the injury.

Tottenham coach Roberto De Zerbi confirmed that the situation is not yet clear: "We will know more about Romero's injury in the coming days. I hope it is not something serious because he is a key player for us."

Meanwhile, Argentine journalist Gastón Edul reported that it is a question of knee instability and that the player will undergo tests on the ligaments, to determine whether there is a rupture or just a minor injury.

His condition remains under constant observation, while the biggest concern is whether this injury will force him to miss the biggest tournament in world football next summer. /GazetaExpress/
