The Democratic League of Kosovo has reacted after the full constitution of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, emphasizing that the constitutional path for the formation of the new government has now been opened.

In a public statement distributed by LDK leader Lumir Abdixhiku, it is stated that with the election of the fifth deputy speaker of the Assembly, the legislative institution is now functional, and thus the deadlines for further constitutional steps have been restored.

"With the election of the fifth Deputy Speaker of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, the country today has a functional Assembly and has returned to the constitutional deadlines for the formation of the new Government," the announcement states.

LDK announces that after an in-depth legal analysis, it has concluded that the latest ruling of the Constitutional Court has paved the way for this process. The party assesses that the country has been held in an institutional blockade for more than five months for a position that, according to it, is "entirely formal and irrelevant."

"Keeping the country under lockdown for more than five months was an irresponsible act that harmed the interests of the Republic," it further states.

LDK has accused Vetëvendosje of turning the issue into an electoral issue and deliberately delaying the constitution of the Assembly through a "non-existent" debate about the Serbian List and its right to veto.

"LDK decided to remove this issue from the political and institutional agenda, paving the way for the country's constitutional and institutional process," the statement states.

Through this action, according to the LDK, the establishment of new institutions was unblocked and "new constitutional violations" by the Vetëvendosje Parliamentary Group were stopped, including "the usurpation of institutions by a government without legitimacy and without legal and constitutional authorizations."

LDK has concluded its reaction by describing itself as a party responsible to the institutions and the Republic, and has invited Vetëvendosje to prove the majority it claims to have.

"For 177 days in a row, they have said they have the votes. Now let them prove this fact to the citizens of Kosovo," concludes the reaction of the LDK leader.
