Marcus Rashford, on loan at Barcelona from Manchester United, has spoken positively about his time at the club since arriving in the summer — his second departure from Old Trafford after a loan spell at Aston Villa last season and his first time playing outside England. However, with Michael Carrick in charge at Manchester United, things appear to be changing.
Under Ruben Amorim, Rashford was left out of the starting line-up, playing only sporadic minutes as a substitute, before being sent to Aston Villa last January. It was clear he would leave in the summer and the player had been eyeing a move to Barcelona. Now, with Carrick in charge, it has been suggested he could try to reintegrate Rashford at Old Trafford if he eventually takes over as manager.
However, according to The Mirror, one thing is certain in Rashford's mind: he will not be returning to Manchester United next summer. Barcelona are said to be keen to keep the player and have a €30m buyout option in the deal, but even if a deal is not reached, the 28-year-old will seek a move to another club.
The same report says Rashford credits the move to Barcelona with "helping him fall in love with football again". Sports explains that Rashford is enjoying life in Castelldefels, where he and several other players live on the outskirts of Barcelona. He frequents restaurants in the area and has taken a few fishing trips. He is also improving his Spanish with regular lessons — a sign that he wants to stay.
In Rooney Bardghji, another English-speaking summer signing, Rashford has found a close friend in the dressing room. Coach Hansi Flick has spoken positively of Rashford's impact at Barcelona and, although not always with brilliant performances, his goals and assists have been a significant factor in the Blaugrana's run to the top of La Liga and their qualification for the Champions League round of 16.
