The Polish Embassy in Minsk has urged Polish citizens to "immediately leave" Belarus due to rising tensions over Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
“In the event of a drastic deterioration of the security situation, border closures or other circumstances,” the statement said, “evacuation may become significantly more difficult or even impossible,” it wrote. Kyivindependent.
The warning comes amid rising tensions between NATO and Russia following a series of airspace violations, as well as "repeated arbitrary arrests of Polish citizens."
Despite Polish calls to leave the country, Warsaw lifted on September 24 the border closure with Belarus imposed during the Zapad-2025 exercises.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk stressed that the option of closing the border crossings again remains under discussion. "If tensions or aggressive behavior from our neighbors increase, we will not hesitate and decide to close the border crossings again," he said.
