Barcelona legend Gerard Piqué has spoken about the debate over the 2025 Ballon d'Or, which pits Lamine Yamal and Ousmane Dembélé, two of the brightest stars of the last season.
Piqué, who unexpectedly retired from football in November 2022 after winning nine La Liga titles and three Champions Leagues with Barcelona, continues to be an active voice when it comes to his former club.
In his debut season, Hansi Flick led a young team to a domestic treble – La Liga, Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup – but European glory remained out of his reach.
Lamine Yamal, just 17, has excelled under Flick, scoring 18 goals in 55 appearances. Piqué has backed the Barcelona academy talent in the race for the Ballon d'Or despite stiff competition from his former teammate Dembélé.
"I had the opportunity to share the dressing room with both of them, Ousmane and Lamine," Piqué said of Sports world.
"They are both wonderful people. I love them very much."
"I would prefer Lamine Yamal to win, because he is a Barcelona player and also involved in the King's League. He has a team there, so I would like to see him win."
"But I also really like Ousmane, and if he wins, I'll be happy for him."
