Pedro Neto, Diogo Jota's teammate in the Portugal national team and previously at Wolves, has left his current club, Chelsea, for an indefinite period for humanitarian reasons, following the tragic news of the deaths of Jota and his brother André Silva.
The Portuguese forward was absent from Chelsea's training session in Miami yesterday, where the club is preparing for the Club World Cup. Coach Enzo Maresca confirmed the absence and stressed that any decision Neto makes will be respected unconditionally.
"I spoke with Pedro this morning. We fully support him. Any decision he makes will be the right one," Maresca said at the press conference.
He added that it is entirely up to the player whether he will be ready for the tournament quarter-final against Palmeiras, which takes place on Saturday in the early hours of the morning.
Neto was one of Jota's closest friends, with whom he shared the pitch for the Portuguese national team and in the Premier League during their time at Wolverhampton. The news of the passing of Jota and his brother, following a tragic accident in Spain, has shocked the football community.
