Paris Saint-Germain have been declared champions of France for the fifth consecutive season, after defeating direct rivals Lens and winning the Ligue 1 title for the 14th time in history.
Although the Parisians have played spectacular football in the UEFA Champions League, where they have reached the final for the second consecutive season, their campaign in the French championship has not been as dominant.
The European champions have suffered defeats to Lyon, Monaco, Marseille and Rennes, as well as draws in five matches, which allowed Lens to compete for the title.
However, after three wins in their last four games, Luis Enrique's team entered the clash against their title rivals knowing that any result other than defeat would see them crowned champions once again - and they managed to achieve that objective.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, one of the team's main stars this season, gave PSG a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute. Lens created several good chances afterwards, but failed to convert them, while in extra time Ibrahim Mbaye sealed the victory with a goal for 2-0.
This is the first time in history that Paris Saint-Germain has won five consecutive Ligue 1 titles, becoming only the second team to achieve this feat after Lyon, who had triumphed five times in a row from 2001 to 2006.
That Lyon team won two more consecutive titles, while the Parisians believe they can repeat the same success.
Now, PSG's focus will shift to the Champions League, where they aim to defeat Arsenal and defend the European crown to confirm themselves as one of the greatest teams in football history.
