The Mayor of South Mitrovica, Faton Peci, through a post on the social network Facebook, has taken stock of the two-month governance of the executive there, saying that in one of the directorates of this municipality, ''444 actions have been taken''.
In his post, Peci said that "for the first time, a clear practice of legal liability is being implemented: in cases where occupiers do not demolish the buildings within the legally established deadline, the Municipality intervenes to demolish them, while the occupiers are obliged to cover the costs themselves."
Post:
This is what efficient governance is
Two days before two months have passed since the appointment of the executive, 444 actions have been taken in just one of the directorates.
Faced with a difficult situation inherited from the previous government with:
•Usurpation of municipal property
• Unauthorized construction
•Use of municipal property for decades by people close to the former government without fulfilling legal obligations to the municipality
• Selective treatment of cases
• Non-compliance with contracts
• Lack of action against illegal landfills within the city
• The interference of “daily politics” in the execution of final decisions
• Use of municipal terraces without paying dues
• Street vendors on every corner of the city
• Public parking lots occupied
• Annexes of premises that did not pay a single cent to the municipality and many other violations
• The green market that operated on streets and sidewalks
Some of the decisions and actions we have taken so far:
• 6 buildings have been demolished/removed and 14 others are in the process
• 6 illegal constructions have been stopped
• 166 actions to free up public spaces
• Regular weekly actions for market rebalancing
• Actions in road transport to protect consumers and prevent abusive price increases for passengers
• Installation of tapes on 5 objects for non-compliance with legal provisions
• Around 60 illegally placed advertisements have been removed from public spaces
• Complete removal of street vendor waste at the Reservoir Lake
• 22 fines imposed on lawbreakers
• Regular inspections with sanitary inspectors to enforce the law against smoking in enclosed public spaces (fines and closure of premises)
• Prohibition of unauthorized works in public spaces (roads and sidewalks)
It is worth noting that for the first time, a clear practice of legal liability is being implemented: in cases where occupiers do not demolish the buildings within the legally established deadline, the Municipality intervenes to demolish them, while the occupiers are obliged to cover the costs themselves.
We remain committed to enforcing the law and treating citizens equally.
No one above the law!
