The Democratic Youth of Kosovo carried out a symbolic action today in reaction to an unacceptable image that was published yesterday from the premises of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where a photograph of President Hashim Thaçi was thrown on the ground in a room filled with objects.
This action is not only a lack of respect for a former President of the Republic of Kosovo, but also a low attempt to relativize and erase an important part of our state-forming history.
Through today's action, the Democratic Youth of Kosovo placed a photograph of President Hashim Thaçi, accompanied by some of the key moments of his political and state journey: from student leader, co-founder of the KLA, head of the Albanian delegation in Rambouillet, to Prime Minister of state-building and President of the Republic of Kosovo.
The message was clear: You can shoot the photos, but you can't erase history.
The history of Kosovo cannot be rewritten according to anyone's political preferences. The contribution to the freedom, independence and state-building of Kosovo is documented in sacrifice, in historic decisions and in the journey of our people towards freedom.
The Democratic Youth of Kosovo believes that the institutions of the Republic should be spaces that honor the history and contribution of those who have served the country, regardless of political beliefs.
Because the history of Kosovo is greater than any attempt to erase it, especially the personality and contribution of President Hashim Thaçi.
