Train traffic between Lausanne and Renens has been severely disrupted since Sunday evening, following a fire in 40 electrical cables at Lausanne station, caused by a pyrotechnic device thrown from the window of a train carrying Servette FC fans.
Around 1.000 wires have been damaged and Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) teams are working intensively to repair them. Currently, two trains per hour are running in each direction, as well as replacement buses.
The incident has caused chaos for around 90.000 passengers, while investigative authorities are on the ground and a criminal report has been filed. Football clubs and politicians have called for stricter measures on the use of pyrotechnics and security at stations.
Traffic is expected to normalize on Wednesday morning./Albinfo.ch
