President Vjosa Osmani will convene a meeting of party leaders at 13:00 PM, Gazeta Express has learned.
Osmani announced this meeting during the press conference he held this morning after announcing that he had issued a decree to dissolve the Parliament.
She said that today she will invite representatives of political parties to a formal meeting to discuss setting the election date.
"Today, party leaders will be invited to discuss the election date because, as you know, it is an obligation to consult in advance and it is a necessary consequence immediately after the dissolution of the Assembly to announce new elections. However, a formal consultation with political parties is also needed beforehand and immediately after that, the date will be set," Osmani said at the conference.
Osmani said that he issued the decree to dissolve the Assembly based on the Constitution since the Assembly members yesterday - which was the deadline - failed to elect a new president.
The Speaker of the Parliament, Albulena Haxhiu, last night asked the Constitutional Court to temporarily suspend the constitutional deadlines regarding the election of the new president of Kosovo, a few minutes before the deadline for his appointment.
Regarding this, Osmani said that she is aware that her decree could be challenged in court, but said that not issuing the decree would lead her to violate the Constitution.
"I am fully aware and ready that this decree can be challenged in the Court of Justice and I want to say it openly and I have never been prouder of this decision. I am much more comfortable facing a challenge for action in defense of the Constitution than for inaction when its foundations are at risk."
The Vetëvendosje Movement nominated chief diplomat Glauk Konjufca for president, followed by MP Fatmira Kollçaku. The opposition parties, which sought a consensual candidate, did not participate in the session. /Express/
