Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani congratulated citizens on the 18th anniversary of Kosovo's independence, saying that many generations sacrificed their lives so that today its citizens enjoy freedom, reports Ekonomia Online.
After the flag-raising ceremony, Osmani said that today Kosovo enters the age of maturity.
"I congratulate all citizens of the Republic of Kosovo on the 18th anniversary of the Independence of our sovereign and independent state. It is a day where we all come together. First of all, to celebrate this anniversary of our new state, which is now entering adulthood, and at the same time, we come together to commemorate all those who sacrificed everything so that we can enjoy the state today. Of course, the sacrifice to get here has been centuries-old. Often we focus on the last years, the 80s and 90s, but in fact, there have been entire generations that have given everything so that we can enjoy the independent state of Kosovo today. We express our deepest respect for all who contributed. We express our deepest respect for the path and contribution of our historic president, founding father and architect of Kosovo's independence, Ibrahim Rugova, on the sacrifice of the Jashari family, led by Commander Adem Jashari, for thousands of martyrs, heroes of "To the KLA, to all those who gave their lives, gave their efforts and made sacrifices so that we could all enjoy our state together. Of course, it is this sacrifice that has paved our way forward, for the strengthening of our state towards the Euro-Atlantic path, in this family where we have always had a place," said Osmani.
