President Vjosa Osmani said that the US Deputy Secretary of State, Christopher Landau, has officially informed her that the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) program for Kosovo will continue.
Osmani said that this news comes after meetings she held in Washington, while saying that the MCC program has a transformative impact on Kosovo's energy sector and economic development.
“After excellent meetings in Washington DC where we discussed the importance of the MCC Compact for Kosovo, I have been officially informed by the US Deputy Secretary of State, Christopher Landau, that the Trump Administration has approved the continuation of this program for Kosovo — a program with a transformative impact on the energy sector and the economic development of our country. Great news for Kosovo! Deep gratitude to the United States of America!”, she wrote.
The US Government's Millennium Challenge Corporation and the Government of Kosovo launched the implementation of the compact program in April last year while Joe Biden was at the head of the US Administration.
This compact program is focused on providing clean energy solutions and its benefits were previously discussed by the former US ambassador to Kosovo, Jeff Hovenier, who said that this program is the only one in Europe that the MCC has and that it is worth $236.7 million.
Of this amount, 202 million are from the MCC and another 34.7 million are a contribution from the Government of Kosovo.
But a year later, in April 2025, when Donald Trump was in the White House, Reuters reported that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) led by Elon Musk was winding down the corporation. Musk is no longer at the helm of DOGE.
