Around 154,408 workers in Macedonia receive a salary below 30,000 denars and have a great reason to protest the increase in the minimum wage, the Federation of Trade Unions of Macedonia announced.

According to data from the Public Revenue Office, the total number of workers in the country is 503,031, which means that almost a third of them live with an income below the poverty line, which is 31,200 denars.

This shows that many workers, despite their jobs, are in poverty.

LSM emphasizes that the increase in the minimum wage will mean a direct increase in wages for these 154,408 workers and will affect wage increases in other sectors as well.

"The fight for higher wages is a fight for a dignified life for workers, and everyone has the right to fight for their wages," the union declares.

The protest is planned for March 14, starting at 12:05 in front of the House of Workers in Skopje, and will continue in front of the Parliament, the Chamber of Commerce and the Government.

LSM calls on all workers, their families, as well as those 154,408 workers with a salary below 30,000 denars, to join the fight for increasing the minimum wage and improving working conditions.

"Increasing the minimum wage is not just a demand of unions, it is the right of every worker to a dignified life and greater economic security," concludes LSM.
