On Friday, April 24, the Basic Court in Pristina will announce the verdict against the three defendants for the armed attack on the Kosovo Police in Banjska, Zveçan in September 2023.

The verdict hearing will begin at 15:00 PM, the Basic Court in Pristina told Radio Free Europe.

In its closing arguments, the Kosovo Special Prosecution Office last week requested life imprisonment for Vladimir Tolic, Blagoje Spasojevic and Dusan Makismovic. All three have denied the charges.

A group of armed Serbs attacked the Kosovo Police on September 24, 2023, killing Sergeant Afrim Bunjaku. Three other Serb attackers were also killed in the exchange of fire.

The three defendants are among 45 people included in the indictment filed a year after the attack in Banjska, an attack that Kosovo describes as terrorist and blames Serbia for.

As the verdict is awaited, on April 17, authorities in Kosovo announced that they had arrested a man suspected of being involved in the attack in Banjska.

He was arrested in Merdare, while Interior Minister Xhelal Sveçla said that the arrested person is Stefan Radullović, whom he described as "another suspected terrorist, wanted, in connection with the case of the terrorist attack in Banjska, Zvečan, with the aim of annexing the north."

Responsibility for the armed attack in Banjska has been claimed by Milan Radoićić, former vice-president of the Serbian List – the largest Serb party in Kosovo – which enjoys the support of official Belgrade.

For Radoicic and the 41 other defendants in this case, who are at large, prosecutors had requested a trial in absentia, but the Basic Court rejected their request as "unfounded."

The forty-two suspects are accused of terrorism, serious offenses against the constitutional order and security of Kosovo, while Radoićić is also accused of facilitating and financing the commission of terrorism, as well as money laundering. /Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty
