Thanks to the silver medal won at the World Championships recently held in Budapest, Distria Krasniqi has taken the top spot in the world judo rankings.

She now holds the highest point total among all male and female judokas in the world.

The publication of the new rankings took place on Monday and, due to the championship results, the rankings have undergone major movements.

In the previous version, the Kosovar ranked second in the -52 kg weight category with 5 points, behind Frenchwoman Amandine Buchard, who had 655. The addition of 5 points from the last medal has brought Krasniqi to a score of 700, leaving Buchard in second place.

The new world champion, Japanese Uta Abe, has jumped six positions and is fifth with 4 points, after the gold title brought her 352 bonus points.

The global ranking is based on results from the Grand Slams, Grand Prix, Masters and continental championships, being essential for Olympic norms and determining seedings in major competitions.

Krasniqi is not only leading in her category: she is also number 1 in the overall women's rankings. Behind her are Frenchwoman Romane Dicko (+78 kg) with 6 points and Italian Alice Bellandi (–650 kg) with 78. Distria even has more points than any male judoka: Russian Inal Tasoev (6) and Japanese Sanshiro Murao (595) are further down the table.

Laura Fazliu also excelled in Budapest, winning bronze in the -63 kg category, moving up from sixth to third place, while Canadian Catherine Beauchemin-Pinard and Japanese Haruka Kaju remain ahead of her.

Recent achievements make Kosovo proud: Distria Krasniqi not only leads the world in her weight, but also leads the absolute judo classification, leaving behind the most prominent names in the sport.
