The Ministry of Transport of North Macedonia has provided 2 million euros for the design of the project for the road that will connect Tetovo and Prizren. This road axis has been a government commitment for years, while the transport ministries of Skopje and Pristina officially signed an agreement in 2024 to co-finance the project for the tunnel, which is expected to be 6.4 kilometers long.

The Tetovo-Prizren road is entering a new phase of implementation. For this year, the Ministry of Transport has secured 2 million euros from the Public Enterprise "State Roads" for the drafting of the main project, underlining that this documentation is a prerequisite for determining the exact cost and deadlines for the works for this strategic road axis that connects the two countries through a common tunnel.

"For 2026, 2 million euros have been provided from the budget of the Public Enterprise State Roads for the main design and now the tender for the design should be opened very soon. I am sorry to say this, but we definitely have to go through the main project part. Without a project, we cannot know exactly how much it will cost, how long the works will last, how all this will be realized," declared Kaltrina Zekolli Shaqiri, Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications of North Macedonia.

The Municipality of Tetovo has already presented the route of the road from Tetovo to the site where the tunnel is planned to be opened, noting that field works have begun.

"It will be from the Tetovo–Kodra e Diellit road, the turn above Shipkovica to the Shipkovica exit. The rest of the Tetovo–Prizren road will be the route of the existing road, only its expansion will be carried out," said Bilall Kasami, Mayor of Tetovo.

The Tetovo-Prizren road has been a promise for years. In fact, in January 2024, an agreement was signed between the transport ministries of North Macedonia and Kosovo to co-finance the tunnel project, which is expected to be 6.4 kilometers long.
