Skopje and Ohrid airports are leaders in the region, international media confirmed. Skopje International Airport remains the leader in the region with a 32 percent increase compared to the same period last year, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Aleksandar Nikolloski announced on his Facebook profile.
"Skopje International Airport remains the leader in the region with a 32 percent increase compared to the same period last year. For this year, out of over 390 thousand new seats offered, due to the impact of the conflict in the Middle East, there is a decrease of about 6 thousand seats, but despite this it remains highly ranked in the region and in this segment, reports the specialized aviation portal "EX-YU Aviation News", Nikolloski emphasized.
He announced that in the first months of this year, the country's two airports recorded a 30 percent increase in the number of passengers and about 20 percent in the number of operations, which confirms the Government's policies for the development of air traffic in Macedonia.
"Since the beginning of this year alone, new airlines have started operating from Skopje to Naples and Budapest, as well as from Ohrid to Milan and Bratislava. In addition, during July, lines to Katowice and Wroclaw will start operating from Ohrid and from Skopje to Palermo and Alghero, which means that in almost two years of work of this Government, 24 new airlines have been introduced to European centers, which is a record number of newly established airlines," Nikolloski recalled.
He said that the development of air traffic remains among the priorities of the Ministry of Transport and, as he emphasized, we are proving this with the implementation of the project for the reconstruction, improvement and expansion of Saint Paul the Apostle Airport in Ohrid, which will further increase passenger capacity and air operations.
Deputy Prime Minister Nikolloski emphasizes that this year the number of passengers is expected to exceed 3,5 million, while next year it will reach 4 million passengers, which is a result of the current model of airline attraction.
"Regarding the current fuel situation, Macedonia has a stable situation, coordination is ongoing with all institutions and at the moment air traffic is developing without problems," announced Deputy Prime Minister Nikolloski on his Facebook profile.
