Mysterious symbols around the world: Theories about a lost civilization 38 years ago

For centuries, mainstream archaeology has dismissed the idea that an advanced civilization existed long before known human history. Now, an independent researcher claims to have discovered evidence that he says could fundamentally change that view.

Matthew LaCroix says he has identified "paradigm-changing evidence" for a lost civilization, which - according to his interpretation - hid a sophisticated code through geometry, symbolism and monumental design at sacred sites around the globe, with the aim of preserving knowledge in the face of global catastrophes.

According to LaCroix, the discovery was prompted by a recent find in Egypt and connects symbols that appear on different continents, dated – according to him – to about 38.000 to 40.000 years ago. He claims that this civilization followed cosmic cycles, predicted global disasters and codified teachings about the origins of man, the structure of the universe and the divine in monuments and sacred sites.

Repeated symbols around the world

LaCroix's investigation began after he noticed repeating shapes: giant Ts, three-tiered pits, and stepped pyramids, carved into ancient stones in various places around the world.

“These specific symbols, built in different sizes and found on ancient stones around the world, according to official archaeology should not exist,” says LaCroix. “It is not assumed that ancient cultures had a global connection with each other.”

According to him, the symbols appear from the Van region in eastern Turkey, to South America and Cambodia.

LaCroix claims that the origin of this “global system” lies near Lake Van, at a site he calls Ionis, which he describes as the earliest source of the symbols, architecture, and teachings of this civilization, some 40.000 years ago. He argues that this site preserves the “original blueprint” that later spread to sites such as Giza in Egypt and Tiwanaku in Bolivia.

Recurring motifs – giant Ts, step pyramids, inverted pyramids, lions and sacred geometry – appear most concentrated at Ionis, he says, and then are repeated at distant sites around the world.

The Kefkalesi Relief and the Connection with Egypt

Another key element to his theory is the Kefkales relief, a basalt carving about 1.2 square meters, containing intricate iconography. LaCroix says the relief reflects the same symbols found at Ionis, Giza and several sites in South America.

“This relief became one of the most important artifacts for my research,” he says. “It connects Egypt to this region and allows us to reconstruct the global pattern.”

He points out recurring forms: the T-shape, the pyramid with three entrances, and the figure of the lion, which he interprets as a symbolic "guard" within this code.

Skepticism of official archaeology

Leading archaeologists, however, date the sites near Lake Van to the Urartian period, several thousand years ago, and emphasize that there is no scientific evidence for the existence of a global civilization before the Ice Age. Also, there is no peer-reviewed study that supports the dates proposed by LaCroix.

A key moment for him came in November 2025, when he reviewed an old photograph of the Sphinx Temple in Giza and claims to have spotted an inverted pyramid with steps integrated into the structure.

This led him to analyze the entire Giza plateau, where he says he identified repetitions of inverted pyramids and T-shapes in the Sphinx Temple, the Valley Temple, and the mortuary temples of the pharaohs Khafre and Menkaure.

Using the concept of astronomical precession and a supposed connection of the Sphinx to the constellation Leo, LaCroix proposes two possible construction dates: about 12.000 years ago or about 38.000 years ago. He rejects the later date and places the construction of the Great Pyramids and Sphinx at about 38.000 years ago—a claim that directly contradicts the scientific consensus.

A "cosmogram" and philosophical message

At the center of his interpretation is what LaCroix calls a “cosmogram”: an ancient geometric pattern that represents the structure of the universe. According to him, three-tiered pyramids, inverted pyramids, and T-shapes symbolize layered realities: the non-physical world, the physical world, and the celestial spheres.

He connects this framework to Egyptian traditions such as Hermeticism and suggests that this code was deliberately hidden to preserve a knowledge that humanity, according to him, has subverted over time.

“We are doing almost the opposite of what we should be doing,” he says philosophically, adding that humans were once seen as divine beings, interconnected with the Earth and the universe.

These claims, while intriguing, remain outside the accepted scientific framework and require verifiable evidence and independent studies to be taken seriously by the academic community. /GazetaExpress/
